🚨 You may have noticed a few kdramas on your watchlist weren’t airing the last few weeks - due to Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) and the Asian Games - but it’s all back on track this week!

A GOOD DAY TO BE A DOG: Excited this one is landing on Viki! Not sure how long the SAGAftra portion of the strike will drag on, but until it’s over, I still can only discuss non-struck streamers here (if you want to chat with me & our Kdrama Coffee Crew about the entire lineup become a K3 supporter & join us over on Discord!) I have high hopes CHA EUN WOO & PARK GYU YOUNG will give me all the warm fuzzies I’m looking for in a RomCom…I am also prepared to be horribly disappointed 😹 

EVILIVE: We don’t have a streamer yet for this one. Not sure how hard I’m going to work to track it down. It looks DARK. And while I do like DARK my watchlist is already pretty full in that category. I will probably wait and see what everyone is saying about this one.

🌏 Speaking of PARK GYU YOUNG she has just been named as the newest Gucci Global Brand Ambassador. Joining 6 other Korean stars who have held the title previously, notably SHIN MIN AH & IU. I have always loved her attitude and style so to see her non-traditional flare being recognized globally is exciting.

🪖 The ROK 2023 Army Festival was all over my Twitter this week. It started with a video of NAM JU HYUK as the MC, then there was GOT7’s JIN YOUNG dancing, and from there on my feed was full of the entire event. It was really nice to see so many of our favorites again, seemingly relaxed while fulfilling their military requirement.

🏆 Were you following 2023 Asia Content Awards & Global OTT Awards? This KorenUpdates thread on Twitter had all the updates LIVE. Congrats to all the winners! Especially that Superhero Drama on a struck streamer that swept in almost all categories 🥳😎 And “Weak Hero Class 1” who not only won for Best OTT Original but producer KIM MYUNG JIN announced that they are indeed working on a Season 2!

📈 The latest Good Data Ranking is out for the most buzzworthy kdramas and actors for the week of October 8, 2023. The “Behind Your Touch” Finale as well as lead actress HAN JI MIN took the number one spot, followed by “Escape of the Seven” (which didn’t even air last week - so that is a lot of BUZZ)

💒 Girl’s Day (and actor) PARK SO JIN & actor LEE DONG HA announced their upcoming November wedding via her Instagram. The couple met in 2021 on the set of “Ghost Mansion”. Congrats to the happy couple!

💪 Hard pivot to GIRL POWER: I just finished Elise Hu’s book FLAWLESS: Lessons in Looks and Culture from the K-Beauty Capital (highly recommend) and then I came across this article in THE CUT ‘A World Without Men: Inside South Korea’s 4B Movement’. As a kdrama fan and feminist, I think it’s important to know these stories as well.

🎬 STEVEN YEUN, JOHN CHO, JUSTIN CHON & LEE ISSAC CHUNG were all in attendance at the Busan International Film Festival special programming dedicated to the Korean diaspora. Where they discussed why Korean diaspora stories are resonating, the current popularity of Hallyu globally as well as the on-going SAGAftra Strike.
