☕️ Good Morning!

Did you have a good kdrama week?

😱 Sorry this is coming out a day late! I ended up on Zoom meetings for 8 hours on Sunday and my brain was fried.

But get ready for a beefy newsletter today!

Did you watch the “Midnight Romance in Hagwon” finale? You know I did and it was everything I wanted. Seo Hye Jin [JUNG RYEO WON] bested the women who tried to destroy her. She rediscovered what she REALLY wanted for her life, our couple stayed strong to the end and then there was their unbelievably adorable proposal. Lee Jun Ho [WI HA JOON] grew into a dependable boyfriend who cried for, defended, and wholly supported his girl. Our ambitious & loyal Korean teacher Nam Cheong Me [SO JU YEON] became the star lecturer of the hagwon with the help of her ‘future mother-in-law’. And our beloved Hagwon was saved! Everyone got what they deserved. Huzzah! Jung Ryeo Won and Wi Ha Joon had tremendous chemistry and ultimately they were FUN. They felt like a real couple who genuinely liked each other. We also had one last besties conversation - which made me so happy. These conversations really gave us so much insight into Seo Hye Jin’s thoughts and feelings. (Did you know the best friend lawyer and her husband are married in real life?! Adorable!) If you’re looking for a slow and steady kdrama, with great characters and ends well, I highly recommend “Midnight Romance in Hagwon” (Can’t wait to discuss on SUNDAY!)

My current favorite is “Miss Night and Day”. It just brings me joy every weekend. It is truly Laugh Out Loud funny! LEE JUNG EUN is giving an acting masterclass and I need her to win ‘all the awards’ come award season. JUNG EUN JI & CHOI JIN HYUK have sparkin’ chemistry and their nightly slow burn is super satisfying. I’m also really enjoying all the relationships Lim Sun [Lee Jung Eun] is creating while she works her office gig during the day.

Both premieres this week are my Top Picks.

I don’t know what to say about “Red Swan”. The actors aren’t my favorites and y’all know my love/hate relationship with Makjang…but for some reason the absurdity of some of their trailers made this a much watch for me! And come on a bodyguard star-crossed love connection? Let’s do this!

I have no grasp of the actual plot of “The Auditors”, I just know the promo pics of JIN GOO with his mane of glory are calling to me!!

OK TAECYEON Boards Upcoming Netflix BL

  • OK TAECYEON is confirmed for the upcoming Netflix drama with HAYATO ISOMURA “Soul Mate”. Netflix is calling it a ‘10 year-long love story’ but other outlets claim it’s a bromance. 🙄 Give us the Ok Taecyeon BL we deserve you cowards! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

  • KIM SHIN ROK confirmed to be joining JIN KI JOO & SEO KANG JOON in their upcoming comedy / action drama “Undercover High School”.

  • JANG DONG YOON will be leading the kdrama adaptation of the French series “The Mantis” along with GO HYUN JUNG.

💬 IN TALKS

  • NAM JOO HYUK and ROH YOON SEO are in talks for a new fantasy drama “Donggung”. If Nam Joo Hyuk accepts, this would be his first drama after his return from the military - which is slated for September 2024!

  • GO MIN SI and KANG HA NEUL in talks to team up for a new drama currently titled “Taste of You”. No story or airing details yet.

  • KIM YOUNG DAE, KIM YOO JUNG and KIM DO HOON are all in talks for the webtoon-based drama “Dear X” about a ‘sociopathic’ top actress with an evil side and her downfall. It is also rumored that HWANG IN YEOP may be joining in a guest star role.

  • KIM JI HOON reviewing offer to appear in a fantasy historical drama currently titled “Return to the Palace” with BONA (Kim Ji Yeon) and YOOK SUNG JAE.

📣 PARK MIN YOUNG and KIM SOO HYUN will be holding special fan meetings at this year’s LA KCON! Unfortunately, at this time you have to buy a concert ticket to attend. So if you’re a straight-up kdrama fan like me…we’re out of luck 🤨

📣 If you enjoyed “Midnight Romance in Hagwon” as much as I did this ‘inside baseball’ article about the hagwon industry by Regina Kim is fascinating.

📣 Have you been following the K.WILL “Please Don’t” / “No Sad Song For My Broken Heart” saga that’s been going on since 2012? The MVs starring SEO IN GUK & AHN JAE HYUN have quite the following for their BL love line and fans were hoping for a satisfying conclusion only to be disappointed. But K.Will recently teased that there might be a 3rd installment…

📣 DAVID FINCHER is working on a “Squid Game” English adaptation. Sure. Why not 🙄 I usually don’t have huge issues with remakes / adaptations but “Squid Game” is already a global hit. I mean does it get ANY bigger?! Why do we need another take on it? Maybe if it was in conjunction with the already established world? Maybe. But I have no interest in watching Fincher’s version of HWANG DONG HYUK’s breakout series. Plus - we still have Season 2 of the original to look forward to…so again WHY?
