KDrama Watchlist & News Bites | February 5, 2024

☕️ Happy Monday

Time for another KDrama Coffee Break! ☕️

It’s been raining here in LA for almost a full day straight so what’s a kdrama gal to do?

Binge her full watchlist and catch up on some of her kdrama backlog THAT’S WHAT! Solid watch party here in my place in the last 24 hours ☕️😻

My top shows are currently: “Marry My Husband”, “A Shop For Killers” and a new entry: “Flex X Cop” for my comedy needs!

As we mentioned, February is going to be much quieter than previous months - but the Premiere count went up to 5 late last week when “The Impossible Heir” finally announced their release date. Fear not kdrama fan! You can grab your updated February calendar HERE.

The big news this week, Netflix has started to roll out teases for their 2024 K-Content Lineup, with a first look at “Squid Game 2” that sent the interwebs into a frenzy.

Remember to vote in our weekly poll - this week it’s Killer 🤣

Twice a week, on Fridays & Mondays we land in your inbox with news & casting highlights, trailers from around the internet plus our kdrama weekly & monthly calendars and thoughts.

Whether you’re one of our Ko-fi Crew, YouTube friend, or a brand new arrival we are thrilled to have you as part of our kdrama community!

FEBRUARY PREMIERE CALENDAR
“The Impossible Heir” Added

LEE JAE WOOK’s “The Impossible Heir” finally announced their premiere date: February 28 this past week - of course after we published our calendar. 🤦‍♀️

PREMIERES

⭐️ 02.05 BRANDING IN SEONGSU
⭐️ 02.09 A KILLER PARADOX

FINALES

 02.07 A SHOP FOR KILLERS
 02.09 A KILLER PARADOX

  • UPDATE: Of course as soon as I hit publish I see that “Captivating The King” is airing 4 EPISODES this week. 1 Friday & Saturday each & then 2 on Sunday. And will not be airing NEXT week. (Tracking the Kdrama airing calendar is no joke 🤯)

  • SON SUKKU is back on our tv’s this week in yet another detective role. This one looks a bit dark & quirky - which seems to me to be Son Sukku’s favorite place to be!

  • “A Shop For Killers” finale is Wednesday. This LEE DONG WOOK / KIM HYE JOON-led series has been one of the most enjoyable and satisfying series I have watched. At only 8 episodes it was a perfect length & I’m glad they rolled it out weekly and didn’t drop it all at once. The fun of chatting and…who am I kidding YELLING online about what happens every week has been exactly what I love about TV! Can’t wait to deep dive this one with everyone on Sunday’s LIVE 🤩

  • Yes you are seeing the “Branding In Seongsu” schedule correctly. They are airing M-TH every week with 30 min eps daily.

  • Annnnnd heads Up AHN BO HYUN / PARK JI HYUN “Flex X Cop” fans: NO NEW Episodes this week 😭 They’ll be back February 16.

▶︎ Marry My Husband
Well those were two of the most satisfying romcom episodes I have watched in a while! The Revenge. The Longing. The Family Dinner. THE KISS. I mean my god it was perfect. PARK MIN YOUNG, NA IN WOO & “Marry My Husband” are most definitely headed for Kdrama icon status. And I have to admit “Healer” is no longer my favorite Park Min Young kdrama. We also have to take a minute and mention the level of bonkers SONG HA YOON’s Soo Min hit this week, she went a bit “Single White Female” on our girl Kang Ji Won. Song Ha Yoon is carving out one of the best villains in kdrama! Every time I start to feel bad for Soo Min, she does some new awful thing. Can’t wait to see our new power couple next week as they start their dating phase!

▶︎ A Shop For Killers
There is no way Jeong Jinman LEE DONG WOOK is no more because of that weak ass plan 🤣 Love this drama so much. I’m ready to finally get all the answers but I am not ready to say goodbye to this crew! I want to know so much more about this SHOP, our uncle & niece team, this mercenary business and because we love romance in our non-romance dramas - give me this Jinman / Minhye story! So yeah…ultimately I just want MORE.

✔︎ LTNS (Long Time No Sex)
I liked where this ended up. Not where I thought we were headed at the beginning but overall a decent watch. ESOM & AHN JAE HONG as always, were a joy to watch. I just wish we had dove into their real issues sooner.

▶︎ Knight Flower
This one is starting to grow on me - with only 4 eps left to go 😆 The women dominate this story and I really dig that. The fact that most of the main players are over the age of 40? LOVE IT. The mystery is starting to gel and players are moving into place for the final showdown. The big twist this week was finally revealed - and when our ‘widow’ of 15 years finds out…

Queen of Divorce
This one really worked for some people but sadly, not for me. I wanted to like it. The cast is solid. KIM SUN YOUNG & KANG KI YOUNG are always a highlight. But episode one had me asking repeatedly ‘what am I watching?’. The tone was all over the place. Wacky crime team? Comedy? Melo? Makjang? Who knows. I was told it finds its footing by the end of ep 2 so I may give it 2 more eps?

▶︎ Flex X Cop
I was chatting with someone on Discord about this one and we were talking about how this script is oddly formulaic yet really refreshing. We, of course, have the typical tropes one would expect for this setup but AHN BO HYUN’s sad man-child (who just needs some friends) while entitled, is not your typical alpha male. He’s okay with his female Team Leader PARK JI HYUN ‘rescuing him’. And I love that. The comedy totally works for me. Park Ji Hyun is such a great ‘straight (wo)man’ reacting to all the ridiculousness of Ji Soo’s antics. My favorite this week was the scene in the police station where she kept looking to Ji Soo for his running commentary on the stream of chaebols coming through the door. 😆 I hope we don’t lose this dynamic! I’m also happy that it doesn’t seem like we’re headed into Love Triangle hell with the other officer. Based on this week’s episodes it looks like something is brewing between him and the coroner. Nice!

▶︎ Captivating The King
Behind this week! I ended up binging “Maestra: Strings of Truth”. Plan to get caught up today or tomorrow - Twitter was on FIRE about this week’s eps!
