☕️Time for a Kdrama Coffee Break!

How’s your kdrama week going? Mine has been pretty satisfying.

“Cinderella at 2AM” has been THE sleeper rom-com on my list. I initially had zero intention of watching it but after reading the synopsis I was intrigued.

Ha Yun Seo is single and works as a team leader at a large company. She is attractive, has a nice personality, and is respected at her company. When she was younger, she took her younger brother and left her family because of domestic violence. She has now matured into a confident and pragmatic person. Her boyfriend is Seo Ju Won, who is younger than her. He works as a staff member at the same company as Yun Seo.

To her surprise, Yun Seo learns that her boyfriend is the son of the chaebol family that runs her company. Ju Won's mother then reaches out to Yun Seo to break up with her son and offers her money to do so. Yun Seo believes fairy tales don't exist in her world and decides to take the money from his mother and break up with Ju Won. But Ju Won believes in love and follows his heart faithfully. He tries his best to change Yun Seo's mind.

And I’m so glad I did!! The writing has been really solid, the characters communicate and learn from each other and even with the age difference the chemistry between SHIN HYUN BEEN & MOON SANG MIN is believable & adorable. Heading into the finale this week I am confident it will stick the landing.

I can’t talk about CA2AM with out shouting out YOON PARK. He is the squishy-est chaebol ever. I love how much he adores his brother and helps him keep his girl. His joy at being able to run round his home, alone & unbothered in his underware. And how absolutely delightful his love story with his arranged-marriage wife PARK SO JIN has developed. They are our falling in love couple to our saving our relationship main duo.

Honesly, if you’re looking for a straight up romcom, this one is hard to beat.

“No Gain, No Love” is it’s only contender! This one is more laugh out loud funny for me and SHIN MINAH & KIM YOUNG DAE are truly a great (mis)match. The writer has done such a fantastic job of highlighting serious social issues - especially women’s issues - but keeping them…is ‘light’ the right word? It’s a weird needle to thread. But the writer & the cast are doing it masterfully. The importance is there but so is the humor and I love that. Because even the densest among us and be reached through comedy (which is probably why it’s my favorite genre). I’m excited to watch their ‘romance era’ start this week and to see the continued growth between not only our 2nd couple LEE SANG YI & HAN JI HYUN but our possibly/probably half brothers as well.

The only other drama bringing me real joy right now is “Black Out”. It is a completely bonkers crime drama that is a big pile of WTF and I am eating it up. BYUN YO HAN and GO JOON are the team up I didn’t know I needed. Sadly due to the Chuseok Holiday in Korea we only got one ep this week and I needed MORE!

Unfortunately if you want to watch legally HULU only has the first 8 eps available but not really…? Honestly it’s a mess. The 8 on HULU is really only the first 7 but packaged with shorter run times streching it to 8 (I think?). The only reason I figured this out was everyone on Twitter was talking about all the reveals in ep 8 - which according to HULU I had watched - I was so confused, I’d never seen what they were talking about! So I fired up my VPN went ‘off grid’ and I see that there is a different ep 8 coming out of korea…anyway long story short I am now watching “Black Out” off-grid because it’s more current and I’m now completely addicted!

Already shared my thoughts on “Cinderella At 2AM” in the open but just to reiterate - if you’re looking for quick, solid, straightforward and extremely satisfying romcom…you should definitely hit play on this one 🫶 

I am cautiously optimistic for “The Judge From Hell”. It’s no secret I’m not the hugest PARK SHIN HYE fan but she is definitely Kdrama Royalty and the love the idea of her as a female demon sentencing & punishing evil people in the guise of a Judge. Plus the teasers I’ve seen so far look like it could be a fun ride 🤞
